Your local school needs you!

Join the thousands of volunteers who donate their time to help improve the lives of children and young people within local schools and academies in Somerset.

It’s one of the largest volunteer forces in the country – and now you could be a part of it by giving time to become a school governor.

Being a school governor is a challenging but hugely rewarding role. It gives volunteers the chance to make a real difference to young people, to give something back to their local community and use and develop skills. Becoming a school governor or trustee is a great way to gain experience that might not be available in your working role.

Governors play a crucial part of how the school is run, offering critical advice and scrutiny of the decisions and policies of the school.

Anyone can be a governor, as long as they are over 18 years of age,  and, although all experience is welcome, schools will particularly benefit from volunteers with experience in education, human resources, legal services, health & safety and finance, helping to ensure that the school has a board with a balance of expertise.

If you feel you have the experience or skills or would like further information about our current vacancies please visit our website or email SGS@somerset.gov.uk  or phone 0300 790 6855.
