Parent and Family Support Advisors

Support for Parent and Family Support Advisors

Introduction

There is an incoming system reform in Children’s Social Care from central government, and the reform outlines blending early help and social care practice into locality-based teams.

In Somerset, we operate in a neighbourhood and locality model – wrapping around schools.

Parent and Family Support Advisers (PFSAs) are a critical part of Somerset’s early help offer for families. PFSAs work with families that need that little bit of extra support, including families of children on part time timetables.

We are therefore pleased to offer PFSAs support including:

  • Family Intervention Service colleagues are providing ‘group support’ sessions for PFSAs in each neighbourhood.
  • Connect Somerset Champions are available to offer peer support and can support PFSAs to be a part of the ‘group support’ sessions noted above.
  • There are ongoing developments of a Case Management System available for PFSAs to use.
  • PFSA Handbook (Please download using the link below)
  • Neighbourhood Teams webpages and meetings can also help PFSAs to connect with their neighbourhood and locality.

Handbook

This handbook has been designed by PFSAs and their managers for PFSAs and their managers, both new and existing staff.

The intention of this handbook is not to override individual schools’ policies and procedures, but to provide guidance and support for PFSAs and managers who would like to use it.
