About our neighbourhood

Welcome to the West Mendip Neighbourhood Team page.
Our names are Siobhan White and Jessica Lewin, and we share the role of Connect Somerset Champion for West Mendip. We both work within the Youth and Community Team for YMCA Brunel Group, supporting the delivery and development of youth groups across Mendip and South Somerset.

The West Mendip Neighbourhood is made up of the city of Wells, Glastonbury town, the village of Street, and the surrounding villages and hamlets. Each of these areas has its own distinct identity, with small organisations and CICs providing the main source of community support to its residents. Glastonbury, Street and Wells all have a variety of locally run ‘hubs’ – each area has its own library and a range of community buildings providing regular activities or support opportunities. There are regular bus routes connecting from Street to Wells (via Glastonbury), however limited transport routes to the villages, with some of them having no public transport routes at all. Active travel is a high priority for our area to help us connect the West Mendip Neighbourhood – keep your eyes peeled for some exciting updates!
