About our neighbourhood

Welcome to the Mendip Neighbourhood Team page. My name is Laura Miller, and I’m the Connect Somerset Champion for Mendip. I share this role with Angela Kerr. We both work for Citizens Advice in Somerset, an independent charity that provides free, confidential, and impartial advice for people in Somerset.

Mendip is a mix of town and scattered village locations. The main town is Shepton Mallet which has areas of deprivation and a predominantly white British population. The lack of a town hall or community hall affects community cohesion, and there is no leisure centre or youth club, so there are very few places for young people to socialise. Crime rates are low, but incidents of anti-social behaviour by young people in the town park highlight the need for more youth spaces.
