About our neighbourhood

Welcome to the North Sedgemoor Neighbourhood Team page. My name is Victoria Boorman, and I’m the Connect Somerset Champion for North Sedgemoor. I work with The Space, an organization that helps children protect their mental health.

North Sedgemoor consists of rural towns and villages. The area attracts tourists, and there are many jobs during the tourist season, but fewer jobs out of season. Public transport is difficult because it is a rural area, making it harder for residents to travel to work and services. However, there is a strong community spirit with many passionate and committed volunteers.

Success Stories

Success of working with The Wessex Learning Trust

The North Sedgemoor Connect Somerset Champion shared the success of working with The Wessex Learning Trust in October.

By working with key members at the trust, I am able to communicate more effectively with the 12 schools they support and identify any further assistance these schools may need. This could include gaps in current services, individual school projects and support for awareness workshops. Recently, we have found funding to provide a mental health peer mentoring scheme in one school.

Building relationships between different sectors helps to ensure as many people as possible can access free training and other support. This collaborative working means we can achieve better outcomes for the most vulnerable students in the area.
