Concessionary bus passes
English National Concessionary Travel Scheme Passes are available for residents of Somerset who are of pensionable age or eligible because of a disability.
The pass allows you to travel free on buses in every area of England within certain time restrictions – which are different in different counties.
In Somerset your pass is valid from 9.30am to 11pm Monday to Friday and any time on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
You can find information about the scheme and how to apply on the Concessionary bus pass page on the Somerset Council website. This page includes information about how to use your pass, updating concessionary bus pass details and applying for a replacement pass if yours is damaged, lost or stolen.
Railcards
National Railcards can give you up to a third off the price of a train ticket, so if you use trains often it can mean a huge saving.
Senior Railcard
If you are 60 or over, a Senior Railcard gives you discounted rail travel. You can buy these online, provided you have a valid UK passport or driving licence as a way of proving your age.
You can find more information on the Senior Railcard website
Disabled Persons Railcard
If you are disabled and find rail travel difficult, this gives you discounted fares. If you have a hearing or sight loss, or if you have epilepsy or receive a benefit related to a disability, you may also qualify.
As well as a discount for yourself, another person who travels with you can get the same discount.
You can find more information on the Disabled Persons Railcard website
