Firstly, a little about myself. I am Katie and am married to a serving soldier, together we have a beautiful, blended family of four children 2 boys, and 2 girls. The most important thing in the world to us, is family.
My career has always been in caring for others. I have worked in a care home, Yeovil hospital and care in the community. I have tended to people suffering from a wide range of conditions such as dementia and MS. These people have not been clients, but a huge part of my life and I have made so many wonderful friends, not only have I been lucky enough to be able to make a positive impact on their lives but them on mine also.
Having worked in the hospital, I have first hand experience in seeing people that cannot return home due a lack of care available to them. People that long for the comfort of their sacred and safe space, where they feel at ease. This has had a profound impact on me. I want to make a positive difference to people’s lives and give them the care they require in their comfort zone, without the added stress of being in unfamiliar surroundings, at a time when they need this the most.
I tailor my duties to the individual’s needs. I assist with washing them, taking their medication, cooking, or making light bites, cleaning, the list is endless. Above all else, I enjoy giving people time, not just providing a service but somebody who is a part of their life, a friend. This extends not just to the individual, but their family, so they can rest in the knowledge that their loved one is with somebody that cares.
