Hello, my name is Catherine Kay. I’m a live in Carer based in Somerset. I’ve been a live in carer since May 2020, previous to that I worked within the healthcare industry for over 20 years in various healthcare roles. I decided to become a self-employed micro-provider because I enjoy taking care of people in a domestic environment and making sure that meeting a client’s needs are kept at the heart of everything I do.
My professional working experience ranges from housekeeper, support worker, writer to teacher. I’ve worked in most care settings including, nursing homes, community independent living, supported housing, residential and respite care and with the NHS. Within all these roles I have worked independently and collaboratively with health care team members, service users, and social workers. I’ve provided care for a range of clients from teen parents, care leavers, drug users, adults with complex needs and learning disabilities and elderly clients.
In my role as a live in carer here are some examples of the care that I have provided for clients and could provide for your loved one
1.Liasing with Somerset council to renovate a client’s current accommodation to make it safe.
2.Supporting a client to Musgrove audiology department to have a mould made for hearing aids.
3.Arranging an O/T assessment for a clients current physical needs and securing access to new equipment for a client’s health care needs
4. Liasing with district nurses to provide care for an historical injury that a client had been experiencing for 4 years. Within 8 months of the client receiving live in care the injury had healed.
5.Accessing dental care for a client and arranging a new set of top teeth.
6.Liasing with a client’s doctor on a medication review to assess and update the clients current medication needs and pain relief.
7.Liasing and communicating with a client’s friends and family to arrange and organize a 99th birthday party and jubilee celebration within a client’s house.
8.Referring and communicating a clients current healthcare needs to their social worker to access and secure additional funding for the clients changing health care needs.

I aim to support your loved one to live as happily, healthily and independently as they can within their own home
I aim to raise awareness about the special, unique and still little-known service of Live in Care. Over the last couple of years many informative, academic and government reports have been published about live in care, drawing on the personal experiences of clients. The findings have shown that ‘Live in care ensures a happier and healthier later life – with fewer falls – and is an excellent, affordable alternative to residential or nursing care.
