After soft-launching at the end of July, the Kings Arms Community Hub has exploded in popularity, being used by a number of statutory and voluntary agencies helping people of all ages.

We were pleased to welcome a number of dignitaries at this important event including the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Colin Drummond, High Sheriff Janet Montgomery, Gideon Amos MP, and of course our very own Mayor Janet Lloyd. Over 70 people from various agencies attended our official opening and were able to tour the hub, see a slideshow of the work that has gone on in the building, and enjoy coffee and cake provided by Young Somerset’s Bold & Brave cafe.

We would like to thank everyone that joined us today and all who have played a part in brining this vision to life.

The Kings Arms Community Hub is open Tuesday to Thursday rom 9am to 5pm. If you haven’t already, please do pop in and have a look around and speak to our friendly staff.

Colin Drummond OBE Deputy Lieutenant writes:

On 30 September I was privileged to attend and ‘cut the ribbon’ at the official opening of the Kings Arms Community Hub on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant. The Community Hub is a large, bright and well-appointed space taking up the whole ground floor of a former coaching inn (and more recently pub) right in the centre of Wellington. Since the closure of the pub, the building has been totally refurbished and turned into a drop-in centre/community hub with a wide range of activities and facilities for young and old alike, ranging from a youth café through to private rooms for NHS consultations and meeting with police support officers. (The upper floors have been refurbished to provide social housing). This is a terrific example of  a local community coming together – supported by Wellington Town Council, local schools and churches and many individuals. It is exactly in line the government’s health and social care strategy of addressing loneliness and social exclusion, moving care closer to people’s homes and identifying health and care issues early on before they become more serious. In a time when nationally we worry about social fragmentation, this is a perfect example of how ‘SOCIETY STILL WORKS IN SOMERSET
